OK folks, here they are: The 41 bike-sharing stations in Manhattan and Brooklyn that do not have a single NotSpot℠ hour year to date.
They are pure. Their hand-scrubbed sidewalks gleam like alabaster. The water in their gutters runs mountain-stream clear.
They don't know it yet, but they are vying for the Mayor Willliam Jay Gaynor Award. It goes to the last station standing with a Zero NotSpot record.
What does Mayor Gaynor have to do with bike-sharing? Well, Gaynor's bust sits in Brooklyn War Memorial Park, not far from the city's top two NotSpots℠ -- Clinton & Tillary and Cadman Plaza & Tillary. Combined, the two stations have racked up 388 bikeless hours year to date.
So we figure that hundreds if not thousands of would-be bike sharers have instead shared some quiet moments with Mayor Gaynor (and the unnaturally perfect bronze breast off his shoulder) while waiting for a bike to show up.
It's gonna be awhile before we're able to announce a winner. Stations seem to drop off the list at the rate of one or two a week, But you know we'll keep you posted.
