First day in the dreaded red zone

This day’s final NotSpot Score, 46, makes it the worst day this year for Citi Bike station performance. A pretty strong recovery in the early afternoon kept the 46 from getting uglier. Did someone mention this is the First Day of Spring?

We saw three new records set:

-- 61 NotSpots (the 7 full stations in that number tie the record high for fullsies) at 9:30 am
-- 63 NotSpots (59/4) at 10:30. With 326 operating stations, that puts 19% of bike docks out of capacity
-- the system stayed above 15% out of capacity for 4.5 hours.

We hadn’t done the NotSpot math on every day of the year and wanted to say with certainty that today was indeed the system’s sorriest day. That process produced this chart. We’re not sure of the meaning of it all, but ain’t it purty?

The process also led us to adjusting the lower zones’ ranges, resulting in more blue and green day, and fewer yellows. So this makes some of our earlier references to zones slightly inaccurate.

The King squatted on Allen St & E Houston St keeping the 31 docks there empty for 11 hours staring at 9 pm Wednesday.
